Jim Ferree was born June 10, 1931, in Pinebuff, NC. Jim had a very successful career on both the PGA Tour as well as the PGA Senior Tour. Jim was widely admired for his exceptional golf swing as well as his attire which included knickers and his trademark Hogan cap.
Ferree learned the game of golf from his father Purvis, a long-time golf professional. Purvis occasionally played on the PGA Tour between the 1930s to the 1960s. Jim Ferree was a quick learner and picked up the game of golf quickly. He attended and graduated from The University of North Carolina where he was on the golf team. He was regarded as one of the best tee-to-green players of his generation.

Later in his career after taking the director of golf job at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, SC he joined the Senior PGA Tour. The PGA Commissioner at the time chose Ferree to be the model for the Knicker's wearing model on the Senior PGA Tour's logo.
When Ferree was not playing competitively he enjoyed spending time with his family and giving back to the golf community. Jim and his wife Karen have been long time supporters of the First Tee of the Low Country. Jim was an exceptional teacher having worked with Golf Digest schools and taught many exceptional students including Davis Love, III, Rocco Mediate, Payne Stewart and Missy Berteotti.
Thank you for helping us celebrate such a wonderful man by playing in his event. He would love every second of it! So, let's have fun and "swing sweet!"
